Hair Color Correction Tips

Hair dyeing is one of the easiest and coolest methods that can be used when you are determined to make a hairstyle change but you are not willing to sacrifice hair length. However, this process can turn out to be a tricky one and sometimes you might end up dissatisfied with the result, wishing that you never made the change in the first place. Correcting a bad hair color is not easy, however there are a few strategies that can be used to make the situation better.

Hair coloring can be either a wonderful experience or an unpleasant one depending on the final result that you get. Bad hair color experiences tend to be frequent regardless of the way in which the hair color was obtained. While those who prefer to color their hair at home are more predisposed to hair color disasters, sometimes dissatisfaction can emerge even if the hair color process has been done by a professional hair stylist. Although theoretically we might be pretty informed when it comes to avoiding the most common hair dyeing mistakes, sometimes things are unpredictable and we have to deal with some unwanted consequences.

If you have dyed your entire hair in one color you might have a hard time when it comes to correcting this hair problem. If you have dyed your hair at a salon you should immediately contact the hairdresser to see what corrections can be made. This is especially true in the case of darker hair colors. Most hair stylists believe that the best color corrections can be done in the first three days after the hair was dyed so act promptly and discuss your options with the hair stylists.

You should be aware that you might need several sessions to correct the hair color as reversing a wrong hair color can be very challenging. You might need about three or more sessions to make sure that you can eventually get the color you originally hoped for.

If you simply cannot stand the new shade of your tresses, you can use a hair color remover but you must be aware that this product might cause the color to turn brassy and you might damage your tresses even more as a result. If you used a semi or demi permanent hair color you have greater chances of getting rid of the color in time simply by washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo more often because in this way the excess pigment will be removed faster this way.

If you have dyed your hair using henna, you can use a mixture of mineral oil in an attempt to fix the problem. Massage mineral oil into the dry hair until the hair is fully saturated then cover your hair with a plastic cap. Use the warm setting of the blow dryer to heat the shower cap, turning it off if the hair starts to get hot. Remove the plastic cap after 30 to 40 minutes and wash your hair using a clarifying shampoo and make sure you use a deep conditioner afterwards.

On the other hand, if you are unhappy about the way your highlights and lowlights have turned out you are a little more fortunate. The hair damage risk is greatly reduced in the case of highlights and lowlights because the process of dyeing tends less aggressive for the hair shaft. If the highlights are lighter than you have expected, using a toner will most likely help you achieve a shade that is closer to the one that you originally envisioned.

If the highlights are darker than you expected, you will have no choice but to re-dye the highlights with a hair dye that is one or more tones darker than the one you used in the beginning. Make sure that you use a good conditioner with a color enhancing formula to be able to maintain the color and the health of your tresses for as much as possible.
